El Cielo de Tita is a memorium painting created with the grief of losing a pet. Gatita, also known as Tita, was the inspiration for this piece. She was a gentle rescue that chose Denique as her owner whilst visiting the Kootenays in 2018. Denique took a 6 month break from the Vancouver lower mainland life in the country. The bed and breakfast where Denique stayed had a cat left by the previous tenant, a woman who brought Tita from Peru, couldn't take the cat back with her when leaving Canada. Upon arrival to the location with her things, Denique sat outside on a bench observing the cherry orchard and Rocky Mountains, when the cat ran up asking for affection. Denique saw she was declawed and sick, she needed love. The owners of the bed and breakfast said that if she wanted, Denique could take care of the cat. Over the 6 months, Tita and Denique became very close and a bond was made. She had become family. Denique noticed an allergy and helped with her sickness greatly, but many issues could not be fixed. Denique loved her regardless and moved her back to Vancouver once the lease was up with permission of the B&B owners. Tita was a very cuddly and affectionate tuxedo cat who talked a lot. She passed on May 7th 2022, at home in Denique's arms. Denique completed this painting with her in mind.
